Instrumental Music
Instrumental MusicThe study of an orchestral instrument strengthens the reading of music notation, allows girls to appreciate various styles of music and develops fine motor skills. It also allows girls to develop commitment, endurance and increases attention span. In addition, playing an instrument provides girls with the chance to connect with instrumentalists worldwide through a universal medium.
In Primary School, girls have the opportunity to participate in the Primary Orchestra and the Primary Piano Club. Both groups meet during recess and are offered to students with prior experience.
In the Middle School, girls focus on learning and developing the basics of playing an orchestral instrument in an ensemble setting. They play music in various styles, including Folk, Classical and Pop. Performance opportunities increase as the girls mature in age and ability.
Upper School students have a more intensive instrumental experience. Individual technique is developed in concordance with ensemble work. The focus is on development, in addition to increased school-wide performance opportunities.
"But then there's a moment like tonight, a profound and transcendent experience, the feeling as if a door has opened, and it's all because of that instrument, that incredible, magical instrument."
- Diana Frolov and Andrew Schneider
