Arts
Laurel School believes the fine arts enrich daily life at many levels. The arts are basic to a well-rounded education. Through varied experiences, visual, aural and tactile senses are developed and the student learns to communicate through nonlinguistic expression. Creative ideas are transformed into various art forms through the development of specific skills. Viewed as a link to the past, the arts help students look at civilization, culture and experience as contributing to the making of modern society. Performance, creativity, analysis, research and criticism are vital components of the fine arts program.
Visual Arts course offerings are plentiful, including 2D Art (painting, book arts, drawing and prints), 3D Art (hand and wheel clay, fiber, and wood), Fabrics and Fibers, Metals, Computer Graphics, Photography, Portfolio Prep, Publications as well as AP courses.
Performance Arts offerings are extensive and include Glee Club and Choir, Music Theory (basic, advanced and AP), World Music, Chamber Orchestra, Dance, Voice and Movement, Acting, Directing and Scene Study.
