Extended Day Science

Opportunities for children to experience science and nature are plentiful both inside and outside.  Mixing paints, playing with water, building with blocks and digging holes are self-paced activities that may be defined as science experiments. Interaction with objects and first hand experiences enable children to learn about the world around them.  Our role as teachers in this journey is to provide a variety of hands-on experiences that afford children many opportunities to discover, experiment and explore.

During Extended Day Science Classes, the children are encouraged to interact with materials, to make observations and to predict outcomes.  These skills are honed as the year progresses. Our curriculum is rich in experiments that demonstrate many principles and encourages children to understand the scientific process and natural changes as it affects plants, animals and humans. The basic principles of physics as they relate to concepts such as magnets, light and gravity are also covered.
